1st assignment - people at work

Brief:

  • fixed focal / bw / 400 ASA / all set manually / keep all images / no cropping / 70-100 images

I decided to use my manual 35mm lens (instead of taping the zoom lens)  on the D700 and honestly, what a “light weight” compare to that (monster) of zoom lens, I forgot about this practicality! It was less of a relief in terms of flexibility, I did have to juggle around those guys I was able to portray. There was no - ahh, nice detail, zoom in - or ohhh, bit more of a wider angle, quickly… and again, too late. I needed in all 3 sessions quite some time to “warm up” in order to be able to frame properly. A good practice to photograph more carefully and I did enjoyed the (formerly known) challenge of working with fixed focal lenses. A good shot or two; the result will be improved in the future. Another aspect of this assignment was, how to approach people. It is not something that is new to me due to my freelance job as a travel photographer but I was a bit surprised how people were not up for it & sometimes quite harshly rejected it.
